WORDLIST

is useful to check how HAMLET will read the contents of a file and help to avoid errors in later analysis. It displays a sorted list of words identified in a file of text. Note that any character-string containing letters and numerals may be considered as a "word" for this purpose. The results may be saved for comparison with other lists in the same format using the companion program COMPARE.

  • If the text to be read is in a language other than English, use the pull-down menu to apply the correct lexicographic conventions.
  • Words may be listed in forward alphabetical order or in descending order of frequency.
  • To save time, counting may be limited by initial letters, or by the size of the words to be counted.
